We take our environment seriously. Working so close to nature we are only too aware of the impact our actions have on
our planet. We use organic materials wherever possible, recycling all green and timber waste, and generally adopting a sympathetic company-wide attitude to all related environmental concerns. For every chemical fertilizer and pesticide available, we aim to use an organic equivalent. Every plant we place in the ground for you is a debit to your carbon footprint.

We have recently changed energy supplier, using green renewable sources and invested in the latest electric silent power tools to reduce our carbon footprint and noise pollution, which we use whenever possible. According to the EPA, the
replacement of 1.000 petrol-powered garden tools with battery powered ones would spare the air more than
19.000 pounds of toxic VOCs every year.

Being a traditional family business does not mean we are always traditional in our work.  Our love of horticulture means we are always learning, our spare time is spent visiting special gardens and related sites, going to garden shows, reading up on the latest trends.  We love a traditional english garden, but also take great pleasure in introducing new plants and contemporary planting schemes into our gardens.  Our planting schemes have won numerous ‘In Bloom’ competitions and Hampton Court-Flower Show over the years. Preparation is key to success when investing in plants that will create the structure of your garden.  All areas to receive our planting are thoroughly and professionally prepared, incorporating organic composts, organic fertilizers and water retentive gels to keep the ground moist during hot, dry periods. Once our plantsman has visited your project and assessed your requirements and budget, he will prepare a planting schedule, with scaled drawings for your approval. Once agreed, this will be quoted if a budget has not been established prior to this stage.

Every single plant is fully guaranteed for a twelve-month period for free replacement on a no-quibble basis.

We provide an initial free consultation, we will than provide a price for the design and measured site survey.  Once agreed, we will finely tune your brief and the area we have to work with, to create a design to present to you.  We will then quote to carry out the works involved and build you a bespoke garden.

Twice a year (June & October) we plant seasonal bedding colour which guarantees colour in our gardens, pots & hanging baskets, all year round. Either tell us your colour pallet or let us do our magic, all you have to do if you are without an irrigation system, is to keep your bedding plants watered during hot dry periods.

Box tree caterpillars feed within webbing and can completely defoliate box plants in two weeks.

It is a relatively new insect to Britain. Whilst the adult moth was first reported in Britain in 2007, caterpillars were not found in private gardens until 2011, it has since become widely distributed across England (particularly London and surrounding areas).

Gardeners are likely to become aware of box tree caterpillar when they find webbing and caterpillars on box plants.

• The pale yellow flattish eggs are laid sheet-like, overlapping each other on the underside of box leaves

• Newly hatched caterpillars are greenish-yellow, with black heads. Older caterpillars reach up to 4cm (1¼in) in length and have a greenish/yellow body with thick black and thin white stripes along the length of the body

• The pupae are concealed in a cocoon of white webbing spun among leaves and twigs

• The adult moth usually has white wings with a faintly iridescent brown border, although the wings can be completely brown or clear. The moth has a wingspan of around 4cm (1¼in)

• The caterpillars eat box leaves and produce webbing over their feeding area. Plants may also show patches of dieback which may be especially apparent on trimmed plants. This is not to be confused with dieback caused by the disease known as box blight

• Caterpillars are also capable of stripping bark which can result in girdling of affected sections

No more damp logs that are difficult to light, produce low heat levels, soot up chimneys and merely smoulder rather than flame.

We can also supply specific timber logs, i.e., Oak, Beech, Ash etc. Our logs contain no conifer wood!

Bring you old paving back to new with minimal expense, we have two options, chemical application or high professional pressure washing.

Moss, algae, lichen, and other fungi will often develop when paving is exposed to light, shade and moisture, staining and masking the colour of the original paving and in many cases causing a slip hazard for you and your visitors.

The easy and most economical method, but often the most effective option is to apply a professional stone cleaner to your paving surfaces, literally within a few minutes, your paving will be restored to its original appearance when new. For paving covered in a build up of moss and grime over the years, we will need to cold water pressure wash using our 4000PSI professional machines, we only need an exterior adjacent mains water tap & an electricity point.

Our pressure washing machines will clear the majority of dirt, moss, algae and other detritus. If your paving also has black coloured lichen stains, this can then be removed in addition using a chlorine based cleaner, similar to that used in swimming pools so completely safe.

In rare cases when cleaning extremely dirty paving, it is sometimes prudent to mechanical pressure wash first to remove the build up of detritus and follow up by using our stone cleaning product to remove any staining in the more porous paving types.

Our turfing procedure is second to none, refined over 45 years, before you could even purchase cultivated turf.

Many contractors will rotovate, level and throw the turf down… it looks good for a few weeks, then expect trouble and constant renovation works. We get so many calls to the office asking us to come and save lawns turfed by others. Our turf is cut fresh specifically for your lawn and is laid within 24 hours of delivery.

EGC use the highest quality blend of grass seeds, sown on the most suitable soil type, combined with highly evolved growing and harvesting techniques to produce an award-winning lawn turf that provides the most suitable performance for the diverse UK climate, type of use and your specific site conditions.

EGC uses horticultural perlite to keep the soil structure open and let the water and nutrients flow. We use horticultural vermiculite to retain moisture within the rootzone, and apply a specialized pre-turfing fertilizer to promote top growth and root establishment. We use rootzone, a specialised loam/sand mix to bed in the turf, to allow comprehensive root establishment and once established keep the surface well drained, allowing use in the wet.

To ensure your turf has rooted properly, we carry out the first cut for you FOC, and also offer a full turf aftercare maintenance agreement.

There are two premium windows for overseeding, April & September. Seeding can be carried out in other months during the season… germination will be reduced, but it is still possible.

Even the most bedraggled, tired and neglected lawn can be brought back to premium condition if renovation is carried out correctly. Our procedure:

Phase 1:
Apply a selective herbicide and algaecide to remove weed and moss growth.

Phase 2:
Mechanical multiple scarification to remove weed, moss and thatch.
Mechanical multiple hollow tining to aerate the rootzone.
Top dressing and brushing into the surface to improve drainage and allow seed development.
Overseeding entire lawn using the latest seed mixes.
Fine raking to incorporate the seed into the top dressing.
Rolling to level and compress the new seed.
Application of a pre-turfing fertilizer to speed up germination and encourage rapid growth.

Phase 3:
Two to three weeks after germination, we return to check rooting and carry out the first cut of your ‘new’ lawn.

As committed horticulturalists, we have an aversion to fake grass.

BUT there are times when a real lawn will not work for many reasons - poor drainage issues, shade, heavy wear, pets, dog mess, sports use and several other reasons.

Today we have many different types of artificial grass, different lengths, colours, wear, some even contain a lifelike thatch for a realistic appearance.

If you have a professionally installed artificial grass lawn/area, you will have no real maintenance to worry about, you can use in all weathers, it is dog proof, easy to clean and sanitise if you have pets and looks good all year round.

If you are a landlord, no issues with tenants neglecting a real lawn.
